HoloCure character menu, with all characters unlocked as of Version 0.6

In HoloCure, the player can select one from a cast of characters to play the game. The characters come in the form of Hololive idols, each one having a unique starting weapon, three skills, and a Special Attack that they can use. Characters are grouped by their respective Hololive branches and generations. There are currently 38 unique playable characters in the game.

Obtaining

The five characters from Hololive EN Myth are unlocked by default. Players may obtain and upgrade characters through the Character Gacha, by spending HoloCoins to pull from each group's character banners. Each character has an equal chance of appearing from their banner.

G. Rank

If players receive a duplicate gacha pull of an already-obtained character, that character will receive a G. Rank Up, which adds a +1% bonus to HP, ATK, and SPD (up to a max of 20%).

Base Stats

All characters start out with base stats, which includes HP, ATK, SPD, CRT, Pickup Radius, and Haste. These base stats can be increased by obtaining duplicates from the Character Gacha, purchasing Upgrades from the Shop, or picking up temporary Stat Ups from within the run. The values in the character selection screen will not appear to be affected by duplicate bonus or shop upgrade bonus but they will be applied to the character once in-game (visible in the pause menu).

The character's G. Rank indicates how many total copies the player has collected for that particular character. G. Rank is displayed after the first duplicate is obtained, beginning at G. Rank 2. Each duplicate will grant an additional 1% HP, ATK, and SPD up to a maximum of 20% at G. Rank 21. The G. Rank will continue to level up beyond that for every duplicate the player obtains, but no additional stats will be granted. It is presumed the G stands for "gacha" although there is no official statement about it.

Main Weapon

All characters have their own unique weapon that they start with that are referred to as main weapons. These weapons are unique to each of the characters and cannot be used by any another character. Like basic weapons, main weapons have 7 levels and can be upgraded by either leveling up or by using an Anvil. Main weapons cannot be enchanted, but Stamps dropped by enemies can instead be equipped to them for added boosts.

The level 1 effects of each characters main weapons can be seen in the character selection screen.

Special Attack

Each character has a unique special attack that can only be used once the player has purchased the Special Attack upgrade from the shop. Special Attacks cannot be upgraded via Level Ups.

The effects of the special attacks can be seen in the character selection screen (once the player has purchased the Special Attack upgrade from the shop).

Skills

Each character has 3 unique skills. These are passive effects that only take effect once the player has selected it through level up. The characters skills can each be upgraded up to three times. Skills can only be acquired through level up and cannot be upgraded through Anvils.

In the level up screen, skills are marked with a star. The effects of the skills that have been picked in the current run can be viewed in the pause menu.

The Fandom system allows characters to immediately have the skills acquired without levelling up.

Fandoms

Fandoms are a system under the Achievements menu that allow characters to gain bonuses based on accomplishments. It is unlocked by purchasing the corresponding upgrade from the shop, costing 2,000 HoloCoins.

Alternate Outfits

The outfit selection screen, which displays if any alternate outfits for that character are unlocked.

Some characters have alternate outfits, which can be obtained in the Character Gacha, either randomly bundled with the received character (no matter whether the character is a duplicate or being unlocked for the first time) or redeeming them for 15 Gambler's Tears. To equip an alternate costume, enter the character selection screen, select the character, then select the outfit in an additional screen that only appears if a character with unlocked outfits is selected.

As of the game's current version, the number of alternate outfits each character has is as follows:

Trivia

  • Kay Yu has shared plans to add every Hololive Production (HoloPro) talent to the game.[1]
  • The character selection screen has changed significantly since the launch version with each major update also re-organizing it in its own way. (See the gallery below)
    • The Random Character button was added in version 0.4 as a character option but was removed in Version 0.6 due to space and aesthetic issue.[2] However Kay Yu later posted that he had found a potential solution to the problem.[3]
  • The characters are grouped based on their "generation" but due to space issue, such grouping was made less obvious in later updates.
    • A generation is an official grouping of Hololive members who debuted during the same timeframe. Initially a generation simply denoted which batch a member debuted in, but starting from GAMERS, Hololive generations became more formalized in an effort to build more tight knit groups by being treated as an organized unit.
