Each attack fires two set of projectiles in a sine wave, one of which is mirrored.
Stats are displayed for one set of projectiles.
Each set of projectiles is considered a separate attack for splitting bonuses from enhancements and Growth.
E.g. at level 7 the bonuses are divided by 7, which is the attack count of single set of projectiles, rather than 14, which is the total amount of projectiles.
Projectile adding effects increase the attack count of both sets.
While risky, IRyS is one of the few characters able to effectively use Injection Type Asacoco due to her ability to constantly heal herself to counteract the item's HP drain, especially in conjunction with Full Meal and crit-boosting items.
Dragon Fire is one of the most effective Collab weapons to use on IRyS, as its incredibly high rate of fire allows it to trigger critical hits more often, leading to more frequent activations of her Half Angel skill to heal her.
According to Kay Yu, IRyS had been nerfed four times during development, resulting in her low HP, and even then she is still capable of being immortal quite easily, as the actual IRyS found out while playing as herself on stream.[1][2] At launch, IRyS had the lowest base health in the game at only 50HP.
As IRyS did not have any alternative design or outfit prior to Version 0.5, her Christmas outfit is a non-canon addition by the developers. It references IRyS's hatred of Santa Claus.[3]
The outfit could have been based on Hololive's 2021 Christmas 3D outfits, although it could just be a generic Santa outfit, as the pixel art is not detailed enough to tell.
IRyS 1.0 portrait.
IRyS is the first character to have their default sprite and portrait changed. This was due to the actual IRyS having her model redesigned. Her old default sprite was thus made into an alternative outfit.
According to Kay, he was redrawing her new sprite live as IRyS was revealing each part of her new outfit design. By the time the stream ended, Kay had already implemented the new design into the dev build.[4]
The name of IRyS's Special Attack, Hope is Descending, is a reference to her debut, first MV and various popular memes that have formed around the phrase:
"Hope has descended ..." is the 2nd line in IRyS debut song Caesura of Despair, its MV featuring IRyS descending from Tokyo Tower.[5]
"Hope has descended and is coming for you" is a popular phrase originating from a meeting between Kureiji Ollie and IRyS in Minecraft. Specifically, Ollie had pranked IRyS by decorating the latter's home with things she hates, causing IRyS to chase after her. Since Ollie was the only one streaming at the time, it resulted in a funny horror-like situation, especially after Ollie started singing the specific line from Caesura of Despair only for IRyS to respond in Minecraft chat with "Hope has descended and is coming for you".[6] The phrase and the concept of a savage IRyS was later reinforced after IRyS single handedly took out the entirety of Council during an Among Us stream.[7]
"Hope is descending" likely also references the iconic moment from IRyS debut stream, in which she descended several times due to being nervous and dealing with debut scuff.[8]
Half Angel, Half Demon and Hope are references to IRyS' character lore. The first two are based on her being a Nephilim, a half-angel half-demon race. The later reference IRyS lore as a messenger of Hope. The image for Hope is the symbol for Project: HOPE.
