HoloCure Wiki:Style guide
This guide will hopefully help people adhere to a consistent standard of style and formatting throughout HoloCure Wiki articles. Covering all situations would take a long time and the following is only meant to be a reference for HoloCure Wiki specific guidelines. For a complete manual of style the Wikipedia Manual of Style should be consulted.
If you want to suggest a change or addition to the style guide, you can do so on the talk page.
Content
- Content should be factual, verifiable and relevant to the subject: Please refrain from adding theories, "headcanons", conjecture, opinions, and other kinds of non-factual or tangential information. Cite the sources of your information.
- General advise on how to utilize a character, weapon or item is allowed in the dedicated tips/strategy section of the article.
- Content on the wiki should generally reflect game content and mechanics as of the current patch. Exceptions to this are:
- Content that were previously available.
- Sections that display changes made to such content or display trivia that reference an older version of said content.
- Trivia sections should be limited to information pertaining to HoloCure specifically.
- E.g. "Baelz's Down Under skill is a reference to her being Australian." is an acceptable piece of trivia, whereas "Sana is Australian" is not, because nothing in HoloCure refers to that fact.
- Trivia sections should be limited to information pertaining to HoloCure specifically.
- Upcoming announced content. These should only contain information that are officially announced or shown by the developers.
Redirects
Redirects can be created if they are the following:
- An alternate spelling of the title.
- Incorrect spellings, typos, and irregular formatting are not allowed.
- An alternate or shortened name, provided the name is common usage. Previous in-game names are also allowed.
- A previous article title.
- An alternate capitalization or form, including changing the title to plural case.
- A part of a merged or multi-topic article, such as Stage Mode or Hardcore.
- Links to skill, weapon and special sections in character pages.
Prefer not to create a redirect when moving an image. This can create a maintenance mess. Take the effort to manually change the file links on the pages it was used.
Writing
Use formal language, and maintain a neutral POV. Articles should be written in third person if possible. Try to keep the language simple and concise.
Titles
- Use sentence case in titles.
- Titles should generally be in plain text. Refrain from using wikilinks or putting references on the titles themselves.
- Article titles should generally be in the singular form, except in-game features with explicitly plural names.
Spelling
National variations of English will occur depending on the nationality of the author. There is no preferred variation for articles and users should be aware of this, however consistency should be maintained. If the article was written in American English then this form should be used throughout and British English, Canadian English, or Australian English users should not change to their variation part way through.
Capitalization
- The names of characters, weapons, skills, items, upgrades, etc. should be capitalized. E.g. "Tokino Sora", "Spider Cooking", "Body Pillow", "Pickup Range Up".
- Common terms, such as "weapon", "skill" or "damage", should not be capitalized.
In-game descriptions
- Descriptions of weapons, skills, items, etc. should be the same with the one in-game. This includes any spelling or grammar errors.
- If there is a contradiction with the function or a need for clarification, it should be noted in the notes/details section of the ability instead of changing the description.
Controls
- Refer to user inputs with the name of the action rather than keybind or controller button.
- For example, instead of "Players can 'talk' with these characters by pressing the Z key.", use "Players can 'talk' with these characters by pressing the Confirm/Strafe button.".
- List of actions and default inputs can be found at Settings#Controls.
Images
Icons and sprites
- Menu, character, weapon, special and skill icons and sprites that are not animated should be upsized to 600% of the original image size and uploaded in .png format
- Full-body character portraits should be upsized to 200% of the original image size and uploaded in .png format.
- Animated sprites (character or enemy) should be upsized to 200% of the original image size and uploaded in .gif format.
- The files should be named in the form of "<subject name>_<additional identifier>_<image type>.<file extension>". This keeps them compatible with existing image templates and makes it easier for users to search images.
- Additional identifiers may be added between subject name and image type, such as in case of alternate outfits.
Image types are as follows:
- Menu icons (weapon/item/skill/character etc.) use 'Icon', e.g.:
- Spider Cooking Icon.png
- Detective Eye Icon.png
- Amelia Watson Icon.png
- Still character and enemy sprites use 'Sprite', e.g.:
- Amelia Watson Sprite.png
- Full-body portraits use 'Portrait', e.g.:
- Amelia Watson Portrait.png
- Animated character sprites use '<action>Anim', e.g.:
- Amelia Watson RunAnim.gif
- Amelia Watson IdleAnim.gif
- Amelia Watson O1 RunAnim.gif (first alternate outfit, base outfit has no additional identifier)
- Animated enemy sprites use '2x' for boss-sized enemies. Normal enemies do not have a type identifier. E.g.:
- Sukonbu.gif (normal)
- Sukonbu 2x.gif (boss)
Other images
- Use a descriptive and clear filename.
