Trivia
General
Fubura is coming is the only achievement where the player would need to defeat a mid-boss. The achievement, like Fubuzilla, is a Godzilla reference with its reward,
Fan Beam, being an allusion to Godzilla's Atomic Breath.
- In the Japanese text, the achievement is named "フブラ、フブラ、フブラがやってきた" (Fubuzilla, Fubuzilla, Fubuzilla is coming) which is a reference to a moment from a stream by JP Gen 4 member Himemori Luna. Luna was practicing on her electone and was specifically playing the Godzilla theme, all while singing the aforementioned line but with her Nanora verbal tic instead of the Fubuzilla.[2]
BBBBRRRRRRRREEEEEE and
Muscle! are both references to catchphrases of Hololive members, specifically Amelia Watson and Shirogane Noel, respectively. Muscle!'s reward being Noel's
Breastplate makes the reference more obvious.
Tears of Happiness...? and
Hai... are both references to a common Hololive meme where fans would joke about YAGOO lamenting about his Seiso Idol Group juxtaposed with one or more Hololive members doing something lewd, crude, or simply weird, with "Hai..." being his iconic catchphrase in such moments.[3]
Tears of Happiness...? being linked to defeating A-chan is a reference to a former popular meme where A-chan was treated as the last bastion of Yagoo's Dream Idol Group due to her status as one of the staff members and Sora's best friend. The meme has mostly died out due the wider Hololive fandom becoming more aware of A-chan's inborn degeneracy.[4]- Despite the meme's popularity, YAGOO himself approved of the girls' and boys' antics, and frequently played along whenever they asked him, which even earned him the nickname "Hololive Free Use Resource".[5]
I am... Peko! is a reference to the famous quote "I am Gundam!" from Mobile Suit Gundam 00's protagonist Setsuna F. Seiei.[6] He pilots multiple Gundams throughout the series, much like how Pekora pilots the Pekodam.
Boing's icon depicts a cutting board version of A-chan, who is also flat. Its name and the fact that it rewards
Bounce Ball are references to the reaction most Hololive members will give when their chats make flat jokes, which involves trying (and failing) to assert they are actually boing-boing (bouncy). The most notable of these reactions, and the one that popularized the "boing boing" meme that inspired the
Bounce Ball, was by former JP Gen 3 member Uruha Rushia.[7]
It's Safe I Swear is a reference to former JP Gen 4 member Kiryu Coco and her news show/fictional drugs AsaCoco. The icon is a reference to the interview segment of AsaCoco, where she would present a Hololive member (frequently herself) as a badly anonymized witness or expert with a simple black bar covering their eyes (which was often not even applied correctly).[8]
- The fact that the achievement requires the use of
Plug Type Asacoco and rewards
Injection Type Asacoco is a reference to the fact that the Plug Type is meant to be a safer variant of the Injection Type.[9]
- The fact that the achievement requires the use of
Wamy. is a reference to JP Gen 5 member Momosuzu Nene and the memes she popularized involving her genmate Yukihana Lamy.
- The icon and reward being
Wamy Water are a reference to a moment when Nene goes into a full appreciation tangent about Lamy's armpit before hatching a plan to sell water poured through said armpit (See:
Wamy Water#Trivia).[10] - The achievement name is a reference to the specific way Nene would sometimes say Lamy's name.[11]
- The requirement being linked to
Sake is a reference to Lamy's reputation as an alcoholic who even mananged to release her own brand of Daiginjo-sake (See:
Sake#Trivia and
Snow Flower Sake#Trivia).[12] This is the only aspect of the achievement that is not directly related to an antics by Nene, although Lamy's reputation as an alcoholic was highlighted by an early story where she hang out with the rest of Gen 5 (as told by Nene).[13]
- The icon and reward being
Glasses are Versatile is a reference to Shirakami Fubuki's very passionate, fast-paced, and long-winded speech about the appeal of a glasses-wearing character, which became a popular copypasta within the Hololive fandom.[14]
Flesh Wound,
Gotta Catch 'em All,
Over Nine Thousand?!, and
Solo Beater are all references to popular media; specifically Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, and Sword Art Online, respectively.
You Can Pet The Dog is a reference to the popular Twitter account Can You Pet the Dog?, famous for highlighting the functionality, or the lack thereof, to interact with cats and dogs in video games. HoloCure itself was featured by said account when it was initially released and the achievement is likely an acknowledgement by Kay Yu to the shout out.[15]
Hamburger Country Yeah! is a reference to a general stereotype of the United States of America being the "Burger Country" as expressed by Hololive members, due to it being a common stereotype in Japan and the rest of the World outside the US.[16] Particular to hololive was a period when Shirakami Fubuki was heavily associated with hamburgers due to a stream where she went over Wendy's (Japan) burger menu.
Pain Peko is a reference to a popular image macro among hololive fans, which involves using an edited image of a baggy-eyed Pekora overlaid over a fake tweet of her saying "Pain Peko" attached to any emotionally-painful circumstance.[17] In its more simplified form, it involves someone typing "Pain Peko" to express the user's pain or solidarity.
Orarara is a reference to JP Gen 4 member Himemori Luna and her battlecry, hence why the reward is
Candy Kingdom Sweets.[18]
- Ora is a common generic battlecry in Japanese media, but is particularly famous internationally as the battlecry of Kujo Jotaro from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3. The popularity of this manga in its home country, particularly with otaku culture (which many Hololive members and the fandom are a part of), meant that it's not always clear whether an Ora Ora is a JoJo reference or not.
Lets Go Gambling! (and relatedly the "Aww dang it" message on the slots) are references to the memetic "gamblecore" video.[19]
Get Some Help. is a reference and response to, and from, Kay Yu to Holive Indonesia's resident endurance streamer, Kaela Kovalskia. Kaela is infamous for her long grinds, resulting her marathoning games in just a few days, one of which includes prior versions of HoloCure. Get Some Help. is one of her signature phrases as a tongue-in-cheek response to her fanbase, with it being her default notification alert for donation.[20]
- The fact that this is the 100% percent completion achievement which unlocks the
Completionist's Grass, and its description mentioning going outside, is a reference to the popular "Touch Grass" meme. In other words, Kay is telling any completionists (especially Kaela) to "touch grass".
- The fact that this is the 100% percent completion achievement which unlocks the
Character Specific
- Clear-a-stage achievements are named after the respective member's opening greeting, ending greeting, or alternatively famous verbal tics.
- Some of the choices are likely taken from Tsunomaki Watame's "Can You Do the hololive" songs.[21][22]
- Opening greetings: "Ina Ina Ina!", "Kikkeriki!", "Boom Boom Boom!", "Kon Kon Kitsune!", "Uchi Uchi, Uchidayo!", "Mogu Mogu... Okayu!", "Kon Azki!", "He-robo~", "Cute today too!", "Nyahello!", "Kapu Kapu!", "Wasshoi! Wasshoi!", "Alona~!", "My Cute Students~", "Ajimaru Ajimaru!", "Yodayo!", "KonAqua!", "Moon Moon~ Moonafic Dayo!", "OBISA!", "Purupuru ganbari Risu~!", "ZOMBANWA!", "Attention Please!", "Konpeko! Konpeko! Konpeko!".
- Ending greetings: "Otsucrazy!", "Otsukeris~", "Otsulemao~", "Otsukaresama Nanora Ne".
- Verbal tics: "*HIC*", "Big Ups!", "GWAK!", "Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu", "I forgor", "Yubi Yubi!", "Nun-nun!", "Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~".
- Others: "A", "Sana Is Eternal!", "Hope has Descended!", "Big Red Heart!", "I am under the water", "Zetamin".
- Gachikoi achievements all follow the naming scheme of True <fandom name>.
Sorry is likely Kay Yu apologizing to Ina for the
Cutting Board joke.
Chicken Down is likely a reference to Final Fantasy's Phoenix Down item combined with the "Chicken Kiara" joke, hence why the reward is
Chicken's Feather.
I Like the Cotton Candy Flavor is a reference to a tangent between Mori Calliope and Gawr Gura where they were discussing flavours of Bang Energy, hence why the reward is
Energy Drink.[23]
That's not Dollrys is referencing the Halloween persona of IRyS which, as its name implies, is a haunted doll.
Limiters Released! is a reference to a common phrase within Anime/Manga where a character would stop holding back. It's also a reference to the item it rewards (See:
Limiter#Trivia).
Hey Guys~ is a reference to the phrase used to summon non-Japanese viewers (Kaigai-niki, lit. Overseas Bros) to comment in chat.[24] The phrase was coined by Inugami Korone, hence why the reward is the
X-Potato (another reference to Korone's English speaking attempts).
Kusogaki Power is a reference to Shion's character archetype as a kusogaki, similar to her
Cheeky Brat skill. The reward being
Kusogaki Shackles is a reference to La+ Darknesss, who's also a kusogaki.
